A Conversation with FPL

FPL:  Thank you for calling FPL.  How can I help you?

ME:  I've been calling for four days, and I keep getting this recorded message that says "90 percent" of customers will be restored by Tuesday night, and the remaining 10 percent will be restored by Friday night.

FPL:  That's correct, sir.  FPL is working around the clock to get power restored to your area.

ME:  Yeah, the recorded message said that, too.  So which percent am I in?

FPL:  --

ME:  Am I in the 90 percent group, or the 10 percent group?

FPL:  I have no way of knowing that.

ME:  Then how did you come up with that statistic?

FPL:  --

ME:  You didn't just make that up, did you?

FPL:  I can only pass on what I've been told.  I certainly didn't come up with the statistic.

ME: --

FPL:  So, how can I help you?

ME:  Did you know that, starting two doors to the west of me, people have had power since Saturday night, and that people directly behind me already have power?

FPL:  --

ME:  So, should I check into a hotel tonight, or what?

FPL:  Would you like to speak with a supervisor?

UPDATE:  Val has a vivid description of life in FPL-land.
