Terrorists Attack Iraqi Citizens. Iraqi Citizens Open Up a Can of Whup-Ass

Ali translates some news that could have huge implications:

Citizens of Al Mudiryiah were subjected to an attack by several militants today who were trying to punish the residents of this small town for voting in the election last Sunday.

The citizens responded and managed to stop the attack, kill 5 of the attackers, wounded 8 and burned their cars.

Ali mentions something that occurred to me while watching news of the election -- perhaps in voting the Iraqis have found within themselves the kind of resolve needed to stand up to the terrorists.  This kind of instantaneous self-organization, though in this instance geared toward meting out violence, bodes well for the Iraqi's ability to build a civic order from the ground up.

That would be a good development, indeed.

P.S.  This story also indicates that the good people of Al Mudiryiah have taken SWLiP's proverb, recited at the end of the previous post, to heart.
