Shurat HaDin: Justice for the Victims of Terror

This has been a tiring day for SWLiP -- one of those days when you wish you could just go to bed in the middle of the afternoon and wake up tomorrow. Consequently, I haven't felt much like blogging.

But I wanted to share something with my readers. About a week and a half ago, I was invited by an Israeli neighbor of mine to come hear a speaker at his synagogue. He and his wife had been to Israel over the summer, and had met Nitzana Darshan-Leitner, the founder of Shurat HaDin. They had been raving about their experience ever since. Ms. Leitner was on a speaking tour of the U.S. After having given a talk at the Miami City Club that day, she was scheduled to give a more intimate talk at my neighbors' synagogue here in Coconut Grove.

Nitzana Darshan-Leitner is a young Israeli attorney who is well-known in her home country for defending IDF soldiers accused of murder and for representing Arabs who are accused of working undercover for the Palestinian Authority. Her primary mission of recent years has been to fight for justice for victims of Palestinian terror by taking the perpetrators, and their sponsors, to civil court.

She was quite a mesmerizing speaker (and beautiful, I might add). I was glued to my seat as she described her successes and failures. The most fascinating story was of her organization's lawsuit against the European Union for knowingly funding the terror organizations controlled by the PA. Right now, the case is pending before the Israeli Supreme Court on whether the EU is entitled to sovereign immunity under Israeli law. Ms. Leitner said that if they are unsuccessful before the Israeli Supreme Court, they intend to take the lawsuit to Brussels, right in the belly of the beast.

I mention this because I think that this organization offers the opportunity for ordinary people to have an impact against terrorist organizations in ways that our own governments seem reluctant to act. If you are somebody who might be interested in making a donation to fund this group's efforts, or if you just want to learn more about them, please click on the link above.

Best regards,

SWLiP
