Fat People Sue Ice Cream Company, Settle for More Ice Cream

I had to post this because it involves a good friend of mine:

MIAMI - Big Daddy Ice Cream has agreed to give plaintiffs free ice cream as part of a settlement of a class action lawsuit with weight-watching consumers who ate the desert believing it was low in fat because of an erroneous label.

The Orange Park manufacturer of Big Daddy, DeConna Ice Cream, agreed to a $1.2 million settlement of a class-action lawsuit filed in 2001 in Broward Circuit Court.

The suit accused the company of violating Florida's Unfair and Deceptive Trade Practices Act by misleading customers into buying the ice cream with erroneous labels.

The label said a 12 ounce serving had 100 calories and 2 grams of fat per 12 ounce serving. The serving actually contained 300 calories and 7 grams of fat.

Under the settlement, plaintiffs with receipts will receive either refunds or two free cups of Big Daddy ice cream for each cup they purchased. Without receipts, plaintiffs can only get ice cream, with a maximum of 12 cups.

Oh, the humanity!
